The stretch film (or wrapping film) is mainly used for pallet packaging, cargo fixation, dust and moisture protection, and is a commonly used consumable in logistics and warehousing. When purchasing, there is no need to blindly pursue thickness or low cost; instead, focus on the raw materials, performance, specifications, weighing, and scene compatibility. The following are general purchasing standards.
1. Raw material standards (determine quality)
Priority: New LLDPE raw materials: The film body is transparent, free of impurities, has good tensile strength, is not prone to breaking, and has strong toughness. It is suitable for shipment, long-distance logistics, and sea transportation.
High-end options: Metal alloy formula film: Thinner, more puncture-resistant, stronger stretching. It can reduce the cost of consumables.
Recycled film: Grayish in color, prone to cracking, and has poor tensile strength. It is only suitable for temporary packaging in the workshop and is not recommended for shipment.
2. Thickness selection (no need to be too thick)
Unit: μm (10 μm = 1 strand)
1. Hand-use film: 15–20 μm, for manual packaging, ordinary light goods
2. Regular machine-use film: 20–30 μm, for automatic wrapping machines, heavy goods pallets
3. Ultra-thin energy-saving film: 12–17 μm, for high-end fully automatic machines, cost-saving and material reduction
3. Core performance standards
1. Stretch ratio
Common film: 150%–200%; High-quality high-stretch film: 250%–300%. The higher the stretch, the more cost-saving, the tighter the tightening force, and less prone to disordered stacking. The high-quality film does not turn white, does not crack, and returns to a firm state after stretching.
2. Anti-tear, anti-puncture
For the edges of cardboard boxes and hard goods, it must have good anti-puncture performance to avoid the film being punctured due to transportation jolts.
4. Self-adhesive requirements
It relies on the self-adhesive property of the film layer for fixation without the need for tape sealing.
Too low adhesion is prone to disordered stacking; too high adhesion is prone to sticking the goods and leaving residual glue.
For regular pallet packaging, priority should be given to single-sided adhesion, only adhering the film without adhering the goods, protecting the product appearance.
5. Common width specifications
Hand-use mainstream: 45 cm, 50 cm
Machine-use mainstream: 50 cm, 55 cm
Narrow film for small package: 25 cm, 30 cm
6. Purchase avoidance (weight is crucial)
Be sure to confirm the net weight of the film, do not only look at the gross weight. Thick paper tubes will be falsely heavy and raise the unit price. The industry standard for paper tubes is 3 inches (76 mm).
7. Special scenario selection
1. Outdoor stacking / Sun exposure: Anti-UV, anti-aging wrapping film, anti-breakage, anti-frosting
2. Electronic materials: Anti-static wrapping film
3. Batch classification / warning: Colorful wrapping film
4. Fully automatic equipment: Pre-stretched film, packaging more stably and saving materials
